Use the chosen wood wisely. Each type of wood has its own grain structure, so the out come of scah pushing the wood will have a unique look each time.
Grab the Bernzomatic burner and shade the wood to a nice dark color. Depending on the wood and pattern, the grain colors darken fastest.
Use a reasonably fine wire brush to scrape the ash off the wood as a first step in refining the shading.
As a second step, use a glass scraper or knife to scrape the ash residue off the wood.
Sand the wood with a fine to fairly fine sandpaper to give the wood its final color. The longer you sand the more the wood regains its original color. For more depth difference, a varnish can be used.
